Pop (Octopus) is a giant octopus turned into a play space. The project is part of Barcelona’s Public Space Play Plan and was born out of a participatory process with students from the local schools.
More than just a children’s play structure, it serves as an urban landmark visible from the street, capable of transforming the use of the surrounding public space. Its tentacles; slides, nets, and ladders, invite multiple routes and forms of exploration, so that each child can find their own path of discovery.
The project also places an emphasis on materiality: the textures and materials (steel, metal mesh, rope) invite free, sensory play, where the direct manipulation of the elements is part of the experience.
